José María Balmaceda
CEO & Creative Director
José María Balmaceda is a textile designer and entrepreneur from Mexico City. Always immersed in the world of design, he began his career working as a costume and set designer, to later work in interior design and the textile industry. The latter being his great passion, which he enjoyed practicing for six years and where he had the opportunity to work hand in hand with architects and interior designers from all over the country.
During a personal search for a professional change and being faithful to her passion for textiles, she undertook a trip to India and Nepal. It was in the course of this trip that she began to bond with her current Indian and Nepalese partners, who eventually became her family. This trip was a tremendous source of inspiration where everything that is known today as Balmaceda Studio, took shape.
José María started working on the pieces of his first collection: Fossil in 2019. From that first collection where he shows a very personal and intimate side to Monumento presented in February 2024 inspired by Mexican architecture, José María continues to express through his collections a personal project where he experiments with his vision of life and different sources of inspiration to conceptualize his ideas. His collections have been presented at the Ángulo Cero gallery and at ZONA Maco in Mexico City. Since then Balmaceda Studio has presented 4 more collections at ZONA Maco and has participated in international fairs in Paris, France. Balmaceda Studio is currently represented and distributed by The Future Perfect art galleries in the United States, Monologue in England and Freeman Gallery in Australia.
As founder of Balmaceda Studio, Jose Maria covers diverse roles every day, from his work as creative director to the challenges of a unique venture. The inspiration for each of his collections manages to fuse excellent craftsmanship with his Mexican design heritage. He is currently expanding Balmaceda Studio into interior design and other objects. Jose Maria is always looking to the future so she is constantly developing herself and pushing the limits of what is possible.
